IRS Has Increased Audits On Small Businesses, Study Shows

The Internal Revenue Service has spent more time auditing small businesses over the past five years, according to a study by Syracuse University's Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse. The agency has also decreased audits of large companies, according to the study, which notes that auditing more small businesses could help agents meet performance goals but won't help the agency collect more taxes or find more misreported income.
